Treffpunkt um 8:30 Uhr beim Tourismusbüro Tramin. Gleich zu Beginn besuchen wir die Friedhofskirche St. Valentin am Dorfrand – mit ihrer romanischen Apsis und den bedeutenden gotischen Fresken der Bozner Schule ein stiller, eindrucksvoller Auftakt, bevor wir auf die Räder steigen. Appuntamento alle ore 8:30 all'Ufficio Turistico di Termeno. Subito una visita alla chiesa cimiteriale di San Valentino ai margini del paese – con la sua abside romanica e i significativi affreschi gotici della scuola bolzanina, un inizio silenzioso e suggestivo. Meeting at 8:30 a.m. at the Tramin Tourist Office. We begin with a visit to the cemetery church of St. Valentin at the edge of the village – with its Romanesque apse and significant Gothic frescoes of the Bolzano school, a quiet and impressive opening.

Das Kirchlein auf dem Kastelaz-Hügel oberhalb von Tramin birgt einen der ältesten erhaltenen romanischen Freskenzyklen im Alpenraum (ca. 1220). Das Herzstück ist das faszinierende Bestiarium im Sockelbereich: Fisch- und Vogelmenschen, Kentauren, Hundsköpfige – fantastische Fabelwesen als chaotisches Gegenbild zur göttlichen Ordnung, die darüber in Christus und den Aposteln dargestellt ist. La cappella sul colle di Kastelaz sopra Termeno custodisce uno dei più antichi cicli di affreschi romanici conservati nelle Alpi (ca. 1220). Il cuore è il affascinante bestiario nella fascia inferiore: esseri metà pesce metà uomo, centauri, creature dalla testa di cane – fantastici esseri ibridi come controimmagine caotica all'ordine divino rappresentato sopra, con Cristo e gli apostoli. The chapel on the Kastelaz hill above Tramin holds one of the oldest surviving Romanesque fresco cycles in the Alps (around 1220). The centrepiece is the fascinating bestiary in the lower zone: fish-people, bird-people, centaurs, dog-headed creatures – fantastic hybrid beings as a chaotic counterimage to the divine order depicted above, with Christ and the apostles.

Hoch über den Weinbergen eröffnet sich nahe der Altenburger Kirche ein atemberaubender Blick auf den Kalterer See – den wärmsten Badesee der Alpen. Ein stiller Moment, bevor uns die Seitenstraßen über Oberplanitzing nach Eppan Berg führen. In alto sopra i vigneti di Caldaro si apre una vista mozzafiato sul Lago di Caldaro – il lago balneabile più caldo delle Alpi. Un momento di silenzio, prima di salire verso Appiano Berg. High above the vineyards near Kaltern, a breathtaking view opens up over Lake Caldaro – the warmest bathing lake in the Alps. A quiet moment before the side roads take us through Oberplanitzing towards Eppan Berg.

Auf ruhigen Seitenstraßen erklimmen wir Eppan Berg und entdecken die landschaftliche Schönheit der vielen Schlösser Eppans. Vorbei an der Kirche St. Justina öffnen sich weite Ausblicke über das Überetsch und Bozen – eine der schönsten Fernsichten der Region. Su strade secondarie tranquille saliamo verso Appiano Berg e scopriamo la bellezza paesaggistica dei numerosi castelli di Appiano. Passando accanto alla chiesa di Santa Giustina si aprono ampie vedute sull'Oltradige e su Bolzano. On quiet side roads we climb up to Eppan Berg, discovering the scenic beauty of Eppan's many castles. Passing by the church of St. Justina, wide views open up over the Oltradige and Bolzano.

Die Burgkapelle birgt einen der bedeutendsten byzantinischen Freskenschätze nördlich der Alpen. Ein lokaler Kapellführer erklärt die Kunstwerke vor Ort. Der Anstieg (ca. 200 hm) ist auch mit E-Bike anspruchsvoll – wer möchte, lässt das Rad unten und genießt den Aufstieg zu Fuß. Mittagessen mit Panoramablick auf Etschtal und Dolomiten. La cappella custodisce uno dei più importanti tesori di affreschi bizantini a nord delle Alpi. Una guida locale illustra le opere sul posto. La salita (circa 200 m) è impegnativa anche con l'e-bike. Nach einem langen, schönen Tag gönnen wir uns eine verdiente Pause in Kaltern – entweder im Dorf bei einem Kaffee (oder gar einem Glas Kalterersee?), oder unten am Kalterer See mit dem Blick aufs Wasser. Danach geht es auf ruhigen Seitenstraßen zurück nach Tramin. Dopo una lunga e bella giornata ci concediamo una meritata pausa a Caldaro – in paese con un caffè (o magari un bicchiere di Caldaro DOC?), oppure al Lago di Caldaro. Poi si torna a Termeno. After a long, beautiful day we treat ourselves to a well-earned break in Kaltern – in the village with a coffee (or perhaps a glass of Kalterersee wine?), or down by Lake Caldaro. Then back to Tramin.
