Von Tramin über Kastelaz und Altenburg nach Eppan Berg, zur Burg Hocheppan und zurück über Kaltern – fast immer auf ruhigen Seitenstraßen, mit herrlichen Ausblicken über die Weinberge, das Überetsch und die Dolomiten. Da Termeno attraverso Kastelaz e Altenburg fino ad Appiano Berg, a Castel d'Appiano e ritorno via Caldaro – quasi sempre su strade secondarie tranquille, con meravigliose viste sui vigneti, sull'Oltradige e sulle Dolomiti. From Tramin via Kastelaz and Altenburg to Eppan Berg, Hocheppan Castle and back via Kaltern – almost always on quiet side roads, with magnificent views over the vineyards, the Oltradige and the Dolomites.
Treffpunkt um 8:30 Uhr beim Tourismusbüro Tramin. Gleich zu Beginn besuchen wir die Pfarrkirche St. Valentin – ein eindrucksvoller romanischer Auftakt mitten im Dorf, bevor wir auf die Räder steigen und auf ruhigen Seitenstraßen ins Überetsch aufbrechen. Appuntamento alle ore 8:30 all'Ufficio Turistico di Termeno. Subito una visita alla chiesa parrocchiale di San Valentino – un suggestivo inizio romanico nel cuore del paese, prima di salire in sella e partire su strade secondarie nell'Oltradige. Meeting at 8:30 a.m. at the Tramin Tourist Office. We begin with a visit to the parish church of St. Valentin – an impressive Romanesque opening right in the village, before we get on our bikes and set off on quiet side roads into the Oltradige.
Die Fresken von ca. 1220 gehören zu den ältesten im deutschsprachigen Raum. Drei Bildebenen erzählen die romanische Weltordnung: Christus als Pantokrator oben, die Apostel in der Mitte, das Bestiarium unten. Romanik in Reinform – und ringsum Rebzeilen mit weitem Blick ins Tal. Gli affreschi di circa il 1220 sono tra i più antichi del mondo germanico. Tre livelli pittorici: Cristo Pantocratore in alto, gli apostoli al centro, il bestiario in basso. Romanico puro – e tutt'intorno vigneti con ampia vista sulla valle. The frescoes of around 1220 are among the oldest in the German-speaking world. Three pictorial levels: Christ as Pantocrator above, apostles in the middle, bestiary below. Romanesque in its purest form – surrounded by vineyards with wide views over the valley.

Hoch über den Weinbergen bei Kaltern öffnet sich ein atemberaubender Blick auf den Kalterer See – den wärmsten Badesee der Alpen – eingebettet in Rebzeilen und sanfte Hügel. Ein stiller Moment, bevor uns die Seitenstraßen hinauf nach Eppan Berg führen. In alto sopra i vigneti di Caldaro si apre una vista mozzafiato sul Lago di Caldaro – il lago balneabile più caldo delle Alpi – immerso tra filari di viti e dolci colline. Un momento di silenzio, prima che le strade secondarie ci portino su verso Appiano Berg. High above the vineyards near Kaltern, a breathtaking view opens up over Lake Caldaro – the warmest bathing lake in the Alps – nestled among vine rows and gentle hills. A quiet moment before the side roads take us up towards Eppan Berg.
Auf ruhigen Seitenstraßen erklimmen wir das Hochplateau von Eppan Berg. Vorbei an der Kirche St. Justina öffnen sich weite Ausblicke über das Überetsch und Bozen – eine der schönsten Fernsichten der Region. Die Stille hier oben steht im herrlichen Kontrast zum geschäftigen Tal tief unten. Su strade secondarie tranquille saliamo sull'altopiano di Appiano Berg. Passando accanto alla chiesa di Santa Giustina si aprono ampie vedute sull'Oltradige e su Bolzano – uno dei più bei panorami della regione. Il silenzio quassù è in meraviglioso contrasto con la valle trafficata in basso. On quiet side roads we climb up to the Eppan Berg plateau. Passing by the church of St. Justina, wide views open up over the Oltradige and Bolzano – one of the finest panoramas in the region. The stillness up here contrasts beautifully with the busy valley far below.
Die Burgkapelle birgt einen der bedeutendsten byzantinischen Freskenschätze nördlich der Alpen. Eine Kapellführerin erklärt die Kunstwerke vor Ort. Der Anstieg (ca. 200 hm) ist auch mit E-Bike anspruchsvoll – wer möchte, lässt das Rad unten und genießt den Aufstieg zu Fuß. Mittagessen mit Panoramablick auf das Etschtal und die Dolomiten. Pranzo con vista panoramica sulla Val d'Adige e sulle Dolomiti. The castle chapel holds one of the most significant Byzantine fresco treasures north of the Alps. A local guide brings the artworks to life. The ascent (approx. 200 m) is challenging even on an e-bike. Lunch with panoramic views over the Adige Valley and Dolomites.

Nach einem langen, schönen Tag gönnen wir uns eine verdiente Pause in Kaltern – entweder im Dorf bei einem Eis oder einem Kaffee, oder unten am Kalterer See mit dem Blick aufs Wasser. Danach geht es auf ruhigen Seitenstraßen zurück nach Tramin. Dopo una lunga e bella giornata ci concediamo una meritata pausa a Caldaro – in paese con un gelato o un caffè, oppure al Lago di Caldaro con vista sull'acqua. Poi si torna a Termeno su strade secondarie tranquille. After a long, beautiful day we treat ourselves to a well-earned break in Kaltern – either in the village with an ice cream or coffee, or down by Lake Caldaro looking out over the water. Then it's back to Tramin on quiet side roads.
